Jean E. (Agnew) Miller, age 91, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. She was the beloved wife of George E. Miller, to whom she was wed for over sixty years.

Born in Boston, MA on January 21, 1931, she was a loving daughter of the late William and Eleanor (O’Connor) Agnew.

Jean grew up in town and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. Prior to retiring, she worked as an assembler at the former Sweet Manufacturing Company in West Mansfield and later at the former Codex Corporation, also in Mansfield.

A communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a former member of the Catholic Women’s Club, Jean was a well-known face and active member of the Mansfield Council of Aging, where she was part of the Puddle Ducks and knitting group. She also volunteered her time as a poll worker and was known by many as the “cookie lady at town elections.

Along with her adoring family, Jean enjoyed vacationing in Booth Bay Harbor, Maine and staying at the former Ship Ahoy Hotel in Southport, Maine for over thirty years. Her hobbies included traveling, photography, dancing and crewel embroidery. She was a wonderful cook and known within her family for baking scrumptious apple pies and cookies.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted daughter Laura Carpenter and her husband Larry of Mansfield. She was the cherished grandmother of Patrick Carpenter and his wife Becca of Attleboro, Melissa Carpenter and her partner Patrick Minken of Mansfield, Tommy Carpenter of Mansfield and the great grandmother of Corin Carpenter, Olivia Carpenter and Jacob Carpenter. She was the dear sister of the late Eleanor LeForte.

Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend will be held on Friday, December 16th at 1:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.

An hour of visitation will be held prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 Noon.

In lieu of flowers, Jean’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the friends of the Mansfield Council on Aging, 255 Hope Street, Mansfield, MA 02048
