Norma Sylvia (Carreiro), 96, of Westport, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 18, 2022. She was the wife of 68 years of the late Antone “Tony” Sylvia. Born in New Bedford, Ma on June 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph and Georgianna (Botelho), she resided in Brooklyn, NY, New Bedford, MA, and Westport throughout her life.
A devoted, creative, compassionate woman whose heart was full of love for her entire family. She always opened her home and her heart whenever anyone needed her. The manner in which she lived her life was a testament to her faith and her strength as a woman of God.
Her hobbies were cross stitching, cooking, baking, jigsaw puzzles, telling stories of her life to the younger generations, spending time with her friends and family, and was an avid Red Sox fan. Norma was a garment worker for many years.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda Furtado and her husband Kenneth, her son Daniel Sylvia, of Westport, MA; daughter Shirley Jaye and her husband Wayne of Freetown, MA; daughter Norma Jean Makara, Elaine Alcaidinho and her husband Joseph of Orlando, FL; daughter Lori Nichols and her husband Stephen of Fall River, MA; son Antone Sylvia Jr. and his wife Alma of Coventry, RI. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Leonora Carreiro, 27 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Kenneth Sylvia, grandmother of the late Anthony Brazil and sister of the late Noemia Carreiro, Marie MacPherson, Georgianna Erickson, Donald Carreiro, Joseph Carreiro, and Richard Carreiro.
Interment will be private.
