Barbara A. Stratton, 75

Barbara A. (Murphy) Stratton, age 75, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence.

Born in Attleboro, MA on May 9, 1947, she was a loving daughter of the late Joseph F., Sr. and Marie J. (McCarthy) Murphy.

Barbara grew up in town, part of a well-known Mansfield family, and was a 1965 graduate of Mansfield High School. She continued her studies, graduating from the Pondville School for Nursing as a Registered Nurse and received her associate’s degree in nursing at Cape Cod Community College. In later years, she received a certificate in Psychiatrics Nursing.

Barbara fulfilled a fifty-year career as a Registered Nurse, retiring in May 2021. Her last thirty years of nursing was spent at Fuller Hospital. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and was actively involved with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Barbara’s family always came first and her love for them was unconditional. She created lifetime memories on family vacations at West Dennis Beach, where she could always be found enjoying the sun and ocean at Lifeguard Station 6. Attending her grandchildren’s activities and events was another special part of her life, as well as being an avid New England Patriots fan. Barbara’s other hobbies included scrapbooking and reading.

She is survived by her devoted daughters: Susan M. Morneault and her husband Ben of Windham, Maine, Deborah A. Stratton of Mansfield and Katherine L. Stratton and her fiancé James Davis of Medway. She was the cherished and proud grandmother of Megan, Alex, Zack, Christina, Hilary, Hope, Parker, Christopher, Wade and Adeline. She was the dear sister of Richard J. Murphy and his partner Carole Cupp of Murraysville, Pennsylvania, Teresa M. Murphy and her husband Jan Harbutiak of Mansfield, Stephen V. Murphy of Attleboro and the late Joseph F. Murphy, Jr., who is survived by his wife Suzanne Murphy of Franklin and the late Charles E. Murphy. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 9th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street, (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
