CHICOPEE – Edgar R. “Ed” Gadoury, 83, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on January 1, 1939, the beloved son of the late Raoul and Rosa (St. Andre) Gadoury. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Cathedral High School, and lived in the city for most of his life. He received his Certificate of Fire Safety and was a Fire Fighter for over 32 years for the Chicopee Fire Department. He was stationed in Chicopee Center, Aldenville, and Burnett Road, to name a few and retired with the rank of Lieutenant. He received an award in 1972 from the Fireball Club in Chicopee for the rescue of a mother and child from their burning home on Casino Avenue. He not only was a devoted fire fighter, but he also cooked at many of the stations for his fellow fire fighters. He was an active member of Elder Council 69 of the Knights of Columbus where he served his council as Lecturer, on the Home Association, and volunteering for many of the events, a member of the Reverend Daniel A. Doyle Assembly 2631 of the Fourth Degree, and a member of the Tigers Athletic Club, all in Chicopee. He was also an active volunteer for Special Olympics where he was a devoted father who enjoyed cheering on and supporting his determined and talented daughter, Lynne. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he served in many capacities including on the Parish Council. Ed enjoyed fishing, golfing, and cooking, but most especially spending time with his loving family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Phyllis V. (LaBarre) Gadoury. They were married on September 7, 1959 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 62 years of happiness together. He also leaves his five loving children, Joanne P. Gadoury of West Brookfield, Mark C. Gadoury and his wife, Kim, of Holland, Dean R. Gadoury and his wife, Cathy, of Bahama, NC, Lynne M. Gadoury of Chicopee, and Scott R. Gadoury and his wife, Kathleen, of Guilford, CT; his six cherished grandchildren, Colin Gadoury and his wife, Bridget, Tyler Gadoury and his wife, Samantha, Marisa Gadoury, Zachary Gadoury and his wife, Lexi, Kyle Gadoury, and Tess Gadoury; his three cherished great grandchildren, Cameron, Caroline, and Harper Gadoury; his two sisters, Rachel Burkott of West Springfield, and Therese Hinton of Largo, FL; his three brothers-in-law, Urbain LaBarre of Fitchburg, Michael LaBarre of Longmeadow, and Jean Ronald LaBarre and his wife, Dawn, of Southwick; his three sisters-in-law, Patricia Surprenant and her husband, Richard, of Waterford, CT, Loretta Yargeau of Southwick, and Christine L’Esperance and her husband, Robert, of Belchertown; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his son in law, Steven A. Morris who was Called Home on November 30, 2018; his cherished grandson, Ryan K. Pickard who was Called Home on May 25, 1997; and his four brothers in law, Walter Burkott, Richard Hinton, Kenneth LaBarre, and Rodger Yargeau. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
