CMSgt (Retired Air Force) John Joseph Friel Jr. 89 of Canton, MA died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 3, 2022.
After graduating from Chelsea High School, John went on to join the Air Force, where he enjoyed 21 years of service. After retiring at the age of 38 he still had a lot of life in him. Started teaching/coaching for a number of years. He then went into Corporate America and continued in the IT Field for the remainder of his career. John is survived by his wife, Linda K. Friel, his children, John J. Friel III, Kirk K. Friel, Mary M. Friel, Nancy N. Wronski, Colleen A. Friel, Joseph R. Friel , Kathleen M. Friel, Veronica Thompson. 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Friel, sibilngs, Robert Friel, Thomas Friel, Joseph Friel (USMC), MaryJane Piro, daughters, Lonna Friel & Donna Kay Eickmeier, grandson Darryl Smith. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday July 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Parish (formerly St. John the Evangelist Church), Canton Wednesday morning July 13th at 10 am. Burial VA National Cemetery, Bourne Wednesday afternoon at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Senior Center 500 Pleasant St. Canton, MA 02021 or the Canton Veteran’s Service Department 660 Washington St. Canton, MA 02021.
