Ethel G. (Dustin) Claflin, age 100, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Garden Place Healthcare in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin F. Claflin, Jr., to whom she was wed for sixty-eight years at the time of his death on December 10, 2008.

Born in Tilton, New Hampshire on May 24, 1922, she was a loving daughter of the late Cecil and Hazel (Chamberlain) Dustin.

Ethel grew up in Tilton and was a member of the first graduating class at Tilton High School in 1940. She made her home in Mansfield for many years and had also resided in Nova Scotia for twenty-five years, where she also enjoyed vacationing.

A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Ethel was a longtime member of the former First Christian Church in West Mansfield, where she served as church treasurer for twenty-five years, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Missionary Circle and Christian League.

Ethel loved spending time in the presence of her cherished family and her hobbies included ceramics, needlepoint, sewing, baking wedding cakes and camping.

She was the devoted mother of Peggy A. Nelson of Illinois and the late Robert E. Claflin. She was the dear sister of Betty Lutz of Georgia, Cecil Dustin of New Jersey, Ann Hynko of Georgia, the late Ceil Myers (Cecil’s twin) and is also survived by her treasured 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Saturday, June 18th from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation on Saturday morning at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ethel’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, #6, Waltham, MA 02451.
