Viola Ann (Brunetti) Lopes Colonna

CHICOPEE – Viola Ann (Brunetti) Lopes Colonna, 100, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at her daughter’s home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in West Springfield on February 19, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Crescentino and Maria (Frulla) Brunetti. She was raised in West Springfield, graduated from West Springfield High School and moved to Chicopee in 1983. She furthered her education and received a Certificate in Court Stenography. She was employed as a Secretary at Buxton’s Leather Company in Agawam and had previously worked at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She had a photographic memory and a witty sense of humor. Viola was well-known for her Italian cooking and also known as a perfectionist, whether it was her appearance or her home. She was the matriarch of her family and was always thinking of others instead of herself. She was a kind, caring and generous woman who enjoyed gardening, shopping for fine clothes, and cheering on her New England sports teams. She could often be found cheering on her Boston Red Sox and was known to throw her Wally the Green Monster doll at the television for any bad calls. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved first husband, Manuel Lopes who was Called Home on November 1, 1969; and her beloved second husband, Silvio Colonna who was Called Home on February 24, 1982. She leaves her loving and devoted daughter, Donna M. Beltrandi and her husband, R. Terry Beltrandi, of Chicopee; her three cherished grandchildren, Kristy L. Martineau-Richards and her husband, Gregory Richards, of Shrewsbury, Carly A. Martineau of Chicopee and Nicolas James Martineau and his fiancée, Diane Windrum of Westfield; her cherished great grandson, Gavin Robert Richards; her two step grandchildren, Michael Beltrandi and Karen Keppel and her husband, Scott; her dear sister, Janet Foley of Agawam; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her eight dear sisters and two dear brothers, Sylvia Brunetti, Columbia Wuller and her husband, James, Stella Callini and her husband, Gus, Almerina Laramee and her husband, Hooper, Elvera Della Penna and her husband, Charles, Raymond Brunetti and his wife, Marie, Albromo Brunetti and his wife, Helen, Letitia Boucher and her husband, Gerald, Norma St. Onge and her husband, Del, and Louise Black and her husband, Bill. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (the funeral home will open at 9:00 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Thomas Cemetery, 420 Kings Highway, West Springfield, MA 01089. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
