Louise E. Romeo
5/30/2022

Louise E. Romeo, of Winchester, formerly of Somerville, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 30, 2022, following a brief illness. She was 88. Louise was the beloved wife of the late Thomas R. Romeo, who passed away in 1968. Born in Boston, Louise was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Bruno) Passero, raised by her father and stepmother, Carmella Mildred (Bruno) Passero.

Louise was raised in Somerville, where she attended Somerville Public Schools and was a 1951 graduate of Somerville High School, as well as a member of the National Honor Society. Louise went on to further her education, graduating from the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston.

Louise was widowed at the young age of 35. With her strong Catholic Faith and self- determination, she lovingly raised her children as a single mother and with the help of her extended Italian family. Louise was an active parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church in Winchester, where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality, prior to the church’s closing. She was also very active at St. Mary’s Church and St. Charles Borromeo Church. Louise volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at Winchester Hospital, and as a volunteer driver at the Jenks Center in Winchester. She was employed for twenty years as a secretary to a busy group of Pediatricians at Mt. Auburn Hospital.

Louise will fondly be remembered for her up-beat and positive personality, her love of music, dancing, traveling and most importantly her devotion to her family and many life-long friends from school and work. Louise loved her home "Her castle on the hill" as she referred to it. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place for family and friends, where anyone could visit with her. She was a great listener and was always there to offer friendly advice and motivation during difficult times. She will be greatly missed.

Louise is survived by her children; Thomas Romeo and his wife Nicole of Woburn, Paul Romeo of Winchester, Robert Romeo and his wife Mary of Stoneham, James Romeo and his partner Jeffrey Smith of Melrose, Jean Castro and her husband Rafael of Winchester. She was the loving grandmother of Michael, Nicolas, Renée, Robert Charles, and Christina Romeo, and Leo Castro. Loving great grandmother of Tommy Don Romeo. Cherished sister of Rev. Ernest Passero S.J., Eleanor McGeehan, and Arthur Passero and his wife Wendy. Dear sister-in-law of Joanne Williams.
