George J. Gibbs Jr. of Onset, formerly of Canton passed away April 12th after a brief illness. Born in Dorchester, he graduated from Canton High School and Northeastern University Lincoln Institute of Mechanical Engineering. He was HVAC Mechanical Engineer and the owner and operator of Gibbs-McCalister Inc. in Canton for many years before retiring. George was an Eagle Scout and the Boy Scout Leader of Troup 26 in Canton. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, riding snow mobiles, and was part of the No Name Golf League at Brookmeadow Country Club. He was the ultimate family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He has lived in Onset since 1985 and previously lived in Canton for many years.
Beloved husband of his high school sweetheart Janice O. Gibbs (Odell). Father of Kathy McCormack and her husband Paul of Canton, Carrie Bird and her husband Richard of Canton, George Gibbs of Onset, and Timothy Gibbs and his wife Susan of Canton. Brother of Ada Goodrich of Canton and the late John Gibbs. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday April 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral service at the Congregational Church of Canton, Canton Wednesday morning April 20th at 10:00. Burial private. Donations may be made in George’s memory to a charity of one’s choice. | |||||
