Obituary

Dr. Kevin Patrick O’Malley, husband of Kathleen Mary O’Malley, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family in his home. Kevin and Kathleen were married on June 28, 1969 in Boston, Ma and lived the last 30 years in Franklin, Ma. They were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.

Kevin began this new journey after his battle with cancer March 1, 2022 at the age of 79. We will miss his strength of character, his witty humor, his unqualified love and his larger-than-life presence. Kevin placed the needs of his family first at all times and was the center of their universe. The values that Kevin instilled into his children and grandchildren will be forever ingrained in who they are.

Kevin was born in Boston, on November 29, 1942 and spent his career educating and helping others. His story was a story of education. Kevin believed that education was a liberating force and he treated it with a seriousness beyond his calling. He started his career as a teacher at the old Boston English High School. His devotion to education led him to serve as Vice Principal in the Franklin Public Schools, Principal of Leominster High School, Assistant Superintendent of Leominster schools, Superintendent of Ayer Public Schools and he retired as Superintendent of Ayer Public Schools before returning to be the Head of School of the Franklin Charter school. In his retirement he donated his time as Chair of the Franklin School committee.

Kevin is survived by his children Michael and Paola O’Malley, Jennifer and Patrick O’Malley Dillon, Kaitlyn O’Malley and Kelly Thompson, Daniel and Jillian O’Malley along with his seven Grandchildren: Mary, Kathleen, Makenna, Brennan, Emma, Kevin, and Owen.

He will be missed by his family and friends along with the many he has influenced throughout his career.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass Friday March 4th, in St. Mary's Church, 1 Church Square Franklin at 11AM. To view the Mass stmarysfranklin.org

Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery will be held at a later date.
