Elmer Eugene DeMoss, 75, passed away December 27, 2021, at home in Ashburn (Coverdale), GA after battling cancer and COPD. He was born Aug 28, 1946, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Ft. Madison, Iowa. The son of Elmer “Glen” DeMoss and Nora “Grace” Woodsmall (Hartwig)

He married Cheryl Roth on Dec 23, 1966, at the First Christian Church, Keokuk, IA
The couple had two children and later divorced in 1980.

The last 25 years of his life he spent with his partner Carolyn Anderson, who had two children from a previous marriage.

Elmer graduated from Canton, MO High School, Class of 1964 and later attended the United States Trade School of Auto Mechanics in Kansas City. From 1966 - 1970 he served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic working primarily on B52 bombers and CK 135 planes. He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota and did 2 tours in Guam during the Vietnam War. In 1970 Elmer was honorably discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After leaving the Air Force, he worked mostly factory jobs. The longest being with
Gardner - Denver Company in LaGrange, MO for approx. 23 years. After retirement, he worked odd jobs here and there on his RV travels with Carolyn.

Survivors include his partner Carolyn Anderson of Ashburn (Coverdale), GA; stepdad Robert “Bob” Hartwig of Canton, MO; brother Stephen DeMoss of Quincy, IL; son Aaron DeMoss of Farmington, IA; daughter Tammy DeMoss of Farmington, IA; stepson Randy (Donnetta) Cain of LaGrange, MO; two grandchildren Sydney DeMoss and Tanner DeMoss of Franklin, IA; three step grandchildren Shelby Cain of Washington, IA, Kelly Knerr of Brighton, IA, and Jessika Livermore of Dubuque, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: a son in infancy Elmer JR; stepdaughter Denise Knerr; and several aunts and uncles.

Elmer was skilled at mechanics and fixing things. In his younger years he enjoyed drag racing, skydiving, trap shooting, and hunting. More recently he liked to play golf and marksmanship target practice. He loved Willie Nelson and being “on the road again.” Per his wishes his body has been cremated.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
