Virginia (Matheson) LeMaire, passed peacefully on October 29th surrounded by her loving family, at the age of one hundred years old. She recently celebrated her one hundredth birthday in July with her family on the grounds of Marian Manor in Taunton. Ginny was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Norman J. LeMaire Sr. of the Taunton Police Department.

Born in Scituate, MA., she was the daughter of the late John Matheson and Estelle (Cushing) Matheson and spent her childhood in Middleboro and summers in Scituate. Virginia was the proud Gold Star mother of W.O. Douglas J. LeMaire, who died during the Vietnam War in 1968.

Virginia is survived by her son Norman J. LeMaire Jr. and his wife Judy, and her daughter Christine Bisio and her husband David. She is also survived by her grandchildren Norman J. LeMaire III and his wife Karla, Jonathan LeMaire and his wife Candace, Lauren Hannemann and her husband Kevin and Allison Guenette and her husband Kyle. Virginia was also the proud great grandmother of nine beautiful great grandchildren who were truly the light of her life. She was also preceded in death by her sister Helen Zilonis, brother Craig Matheson and sister Shirley Vincent.

Ginny’s family was her world and she enjoyed nothing more than hosting family gatherings. In addition to being the consummate homemaker, Virginia also generously contributed to her community on many levels. An active member of St. Thomas Church, she served in various capacities for more than sixty years.

She also was a board member of the Taunton Girls Club and taught many young women the art of sewing. Ginny was an accomplished seamstress. In addition, Virginia was the First Directress of the Taunton Female Charitable Association for more than twenty years and was instrumental in securing grants for many local charities in the Taunton area.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marian Manor for providing exceptional care to Virginia during her residence. She was beloved by all and often described as “an elegant lady” with a warm smile for everyone that she encountered.

The visitation, funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Patients Fund at Marian Manor, 33 Summer Street, Taunton, MA. 02780.
