Obituary


Candice C. (Johnson) Mantell age 72 of Raynham, formerly of Brockton, died Friday September 3, 2021 at the Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. Candy died peacefully with her family by her side. She was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky and raised in Brockton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (O’Donell) Johnson.

A 1967 graduate of Brockton High School, Candy was also a graduate of LaBaron Hairdressing Academy. She worked as a stylist at the Magic Mirror Hair Salon on the Eastside of Brockton for many years and was also a longtime Avon sales representative.

Candy enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word searches and was an avid cat lover. She loved the holidays, especially Thanksgiving which she hosted for many years. Most of all though, she loved her family. She will be remembered as an outgoing woman who was always happy, uplifting and vibrant. Candy will be greatly missed by her daughter, family and many friends.

Candy was the loving mother of Melissa M. (Mantell) Gordon of Raynham and sister of Jolene (Johnson) Letourneau and her husband Gary of Brockton and Marisa (Johnson) Smith, wife of the late Glen Smith, of Hanson. She was the aunt of Jameson Letourneau, Matthew Letourneau and family, Ryan Letourneau and family, and Lauren and Cailin Smith. She also leaves her former husband Robert Mantell and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 9, 2021 in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street, Brockton from 4-6:30pm followed by a funeral service in the funeral home. A private burial will be held on a later date with immediate family.
