Obituary

New Bedford – Fernanda Guerreiro passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70 on June 10th, 2021. She was born in São Miguel, Açores in 1950 and she was the daughter of the late Jose J. Mauricio and Maria P. Pacheco Mauricio.

Fernanda immigrated to the United States in 1967 and married her husband Eduardo, in December 1969. She lived in New Bedford, MA from 1967 until her passing in 2021. She was an extremely loving wife, mother and grandmother, who never hesitated to put those she loved first. She was a devout Catholic, who was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in New Bedford.

Fernanda worked for the New Bedford School Department in the Cafeteria before retiring in 2000 due to health concerns. Although her years in the work force were cut short, Fernanda had an amazing work ethic that was motivated by her love for her family and her desire to offer her children boundless opportunities.

Fernanda will always be remembered for her extraordinary kindness and her unselfish ways. Fernanda was extremely caring and very nurturing. She always had a smile on her face and would bring laughter to those she loved with her unique and quirky ways. Everyone blessed enough to have known her, knew how special she truly was. Most notably, Fernanda was a gentle soul with an ability to love unconditionally. Her greatest accomplishment was her family and she undeniably leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

She is survived by her husband of over 51 years, Eduardo M. Guerreiro; her children Sue DaSilva, Brenda Fonseca, Edward Guerreiro and Justine Sousa and their spouses Brian DaSilva, Izzy Fonseca, Dina Guerreiro and Scott Sousa; her six grandchildren Megan Hand, Lauren and Nathan DaSilva, Ashlyn, William and Edward Guerreiro; her great-granddaughter Aurora Hand; Several nieces and nephews and her sister Natalia Raposo. She was also the sister of the late Jose P. Mauricio, whom she adored.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 16th, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on 230 Bonney St, New Bedford, MA 02744. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at church.
