Retired Boston Police Detective Robert E. McClain, Jr., age 71, of Norton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 28, 2021. He was the former husband of Heidi D. (Van Leer) McClain of Norton.
Born in Boston, MA on April 6, 1950, he was a loving son of the late Robert E. Sr. and Jean (Callow) McClain.
Bob grew up in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston, was a 1968 graduate of Don Bosco High School and a graduate of the Boston Police Academy.
A resident of Norton for the past twenty-two years, Mr. McClain was a retired Boston Police Detective, a job he truly loved. He retired following a career that spanned thirty-five years and of which he was a recipient of several awards and accommodations.
Bob’s three greatest loves in life were his family, his job and playing golf. In his retirement years, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of relaxing at home.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Robert E. McClain of Norton, Brendan N. McClain of Rhode Island and Holly R. McClain and her fiancé Anthony Giglio of Norton. He was the dear brother of John McClain and his wife Kathy of Brookline, Richard McClain and his wife Diane of Milton, Dennis McClain and his wife Jean of Hyde Park, Scott McClain of Brockton, Jaimie Peterson and her husband Gary of Wrentham, Paul McLain and his wife Jane of Rockland, Neil McClain and his wife Kristen of Plymouth and the late Edward McClain. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 3rd from 10:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Newland Cemetery, Newland Street, in Norton.
