Roland J. Purchase, age 90, was called safely home on April 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 16, 1931 in Springfield, a son of the late Edward R. and Edith M. (Brown) Purchase. Roland was a graduate of West Springfield High School. He served in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Roland played basketball in High School. He was an avid Red Sox fan. His hobbies included traveling, especially going on cruises, food and he loved animals. He is predeceased by his first wife, Rose (Greau) Purchase who passed away in 1986 along with 3 brothers, Richard, John and Edward Purchase and 3 sisters, Anita Chagnon, Shirley O’Connor and Marion Harpel. He is survived by his wife Marlene A. Purchase of Chicopee; 1 son, James R. Purchase and his partner Janice Marine of VT; his step-son Mark A. Howland and his wife Tammie of ME; 2 step daughters, Susan L. Hanson of Easthampton, CT and Nancy A. Lashley and her husband Baird of Millville; 1 son-in-law David Hanson of Marlborough, CT; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Baystate Hospice for all of the comfort and care they had shown to Roland during their time with him. Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee followed by a Funeral Mass in First Central Bible Church at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
