Aurea Esther Pedraza, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on March 22nd, 2021. Esther was one of seven daughters and one son from Miguel Santos and Carmen Ibanez from Corozal, Puerto Rico. She was married to the late Luis Alfonso Pedraza from Colombia, South America, and had one short of a basketball team, with a family of four boys.
A devout Catholic, she devoted her life to God and her family, nurturing, educating and providing a moral compass to her four boys after the untimely passing of her husband Luis in 1967 at the age of 32.
Left to raise her sons on her own, Esther returned from Colombia to the United States with her four sons all under the age of eleven. Determined to provide for her sons, while working, she also earned her Bachelors of Arts and a Master’s in Education. She held various positions with the Chicago School District which included teacher, assistant principal and principal.
Esther’s passion for animals was evident having adopted several cats and dogs and made them part of the family. Her nurturing ways carried through to the garden as she was gifted with a green thumb, loved passing the day in her garden growing the most incredible herbs, vegetables and flowers.
She is survived by her four boys: Luis, Ed, Bill, and Oscar, eight grandchildren: Joey, Nicole, Melissa, Jessica, Kyle, Anna, Josh and Leo and two great grandchildren: Madelyn and Logan.
Her family will be forever grateful for the love and values that she furnished to us all. She will be forever loved and missed. Rest in peace mom, grand mom and great grand mom.
