Geraldine A. “Gerry” (Marcheselli) Abbott, age 88, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her daughter in Mansfield on Thursday, December 24, 2020.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey on May 9, 1932, she was a loving daughter of the late Arthur E. and Fiorena M. (Albertini) Marcheselli.
Gerry grew up in Mansfield, was a 1950 graduate of Mansfield High School and furthered her education, graduating from Chamberlain College in Boston.
Mrs. Abbott was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring children and proudly raised them on her own. Her entire family was the most important part of her life. She was one of the first women in the Mansfield Community to own and operate her own business. In October of 1978, she established Gerry Abbott Realtors, Inc. in Mansfield. She had a long and successful career and today the business still remains under the ownership of her family.
Gerry was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a former member of the Catholic Women’s Club. In 1975, she served on the Mansfield Town Hall Building Committee and later on the committees for the new Council on Aging Center and Public Library on Hope Street in Mansfield. She was also affiliated with the Greater Boston Real Estate Board.
Gerry was an avid golfer and a member of the Sharon Country Club. She enjoyed winters spent in beautiful Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling extensively and she will always be remembered for the special place in her heart for animals.
She is survived by her devoted children: Kim A. Ingolia of Mansfield and her late husband Charles, Kerin E. Abbott of Mansfield and Gregory S. Abbott of Mansfield. She was the cherished grandmother of Charles A. Ingolia of Mansfield, Christopher M. Ingolia and his fiancé Brittni Godfrey of Mansfield and the great grandmother of Sofia Ingolia and Stella Ingolia. She was the dear sister Elaine M. Jackson of Mansfield and her late husband Kevin and Edward C. Marcheselli and his wife Kathleen of North Falmouth. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews. Gerry was the loving companion of the late Norman Brasslow and the former wife of the late Walter Millette and Gregory F. Abbott.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her funeral Mass on Wednesday, December 30th at 11:30 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Gerry with a donation in her memory made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 25, Mansfield, MA 02048.
