Frances A. (Eckhardt) Porter, age 77, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

Born in Norwood, MA on April 25, 1943, she was a loving daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Helen (Bowles) Eckhardt.

Frances grew up in Norwood and was a 1961 graduate of Norwood High School. She furthered her education, graduating from Bridgewater State College, with a bachelor’s degree in Education, in 1965.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Porter worked as a Bank Teller for over five years at the Sharon Credit Union, at their Walpole and Mansfield branch offices. She was previously employed for many years at Telco Systems in Norwood, owned and operated The Store on South Main Street in Mansfield and when young taught school.

A resident of Mansfield for the past fifty years, Frances was a familiar face in the Mansfield Community, where she was actively involved for forty years and served on the regional board for the Hockomock Football and Cheer.

Mrs. Porter’s love for her daughters and grandchildren was truly unconditional and whom she treasured attending their many dance recitals and sporting events. She attended Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, was an avid Boston Red Sox, enjoyed arts & crafts and especially visiting small gift shops throughout New England and family vacations.

She is survived by her devoted daughters: Beth K. Newton and her husband Michael of Medway, Bonnie L. Belanger of Mansfield and Brooke A. Porter of Attleboro. She was the cherished grandmother of Kenneth Belanger, Nicole Newton and David Belanger. She was the dear sister of Mary Ellen Dikes and her husband Michael of Texas, the late Margaret Eckhardt and Patricia Cohen and is also survived by her loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 1st from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Frances’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Mansfield High School Booster Club, 250 East Street, Mansfield, MA 02048.
