Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Garcia, aka “Betty” of Chicopee MA, became our heavenly angel on February 7th, 2020 after she succumbed to numerous health issues. As the end was near, our Mama told the nursing staff at Baystate Medical Center that she had become the Queen of England. We don’t know about England; but she was definitely our Queen. Betty was born to the late William M. and Jane A. Fish (Ruth) on April 16th, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, was raised in New Jersey and was the oldest of four children. After graduation, she decided to venture out which later determined her direction in life . She traveled to Fort Dix, NJ where she met her future husband and best friend, Adan G. Garcia Ramirez. They later married and became the parents of four “bratty” children. They were stationed in a few destinations before finally ending the military lifestyle and settling in their home in Chicopee, MA. Betty went on to work in the medical field as a CNA where she took great pride in caring for her clients. She devoted her life to all and she was well loved in return. Elizabeth was predeceased by her eldest son, Adan R. Garcia, aka “Dido,” her eldest grandson, David Garcia, her brother, William H. Fish and her baby sister, Kathleen “Kitten” Cheverria. She is survived by her former husband, Adan, her daughter Kimberly, sons Brian Sr. (Sandra), Kevin (Chettele) and her sister, Susan Birgl (Karl). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Meghan (Bethzaida), Brian Jr., Tyler, Justin, Kayleigh, Brandon, Madison and Delanie, great grandsons, David Jr., Jayden and Jahsir as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Grise Funeral Home located at 280 Springfield St., Chicopee. A prayer service at the funeral home will commence at 11 am Saturday morning followed by burial in St. Rose Cemetery on Olsen St. in Chicopee.
