Salem
Charlotte F. (Homan) Francis, 93, of Salem, passed away surrounded by loving family, on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Beverly Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Roy A. Francis with whom she shared 46 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Frances A. (Scott) Homan. A graduate of Salem High School class of 1943, she worked for General Electric in Lynn during the war years, doing slide rule calculations for aviation engineers in the production of aircraft engines. After the war, she married her childhood sweetheart Roy, had two sons and eventually worked as a teller for the Salem Five Bank in Salem.
A fireman’s wife and the mother of two rambunctious boys, she was the consummate good sport – enduring camping adventures on the Saco River in New Hampshire and countless visits to the Salem Hospital Emergency Room for any number of childhood mishaps. Charlotte loved caramels, milk chocolate, a good laugh, square dancing, reading, and spending time with her family. Among her most cherished memories were trips crisscrossing the United States to visit her active duty sons and their families.
She is survived by her two sons, Scott P. Francis and his wife Leanne and Paul A. Francis and his wife Elizabeth, all of Salem. Her legacy lives on in six grandchildren: Ross. A. Francis and wife Lisa, of Boxford, Adam M. Francisand wife Claire of Hong Kong, Meagan F. Darcus and husband Jonathan of Danvers, Jonathan P.A. Francis and wife Emily of Seattle, WA, Colleen F. Lail and husband Matt of Jacksonville, NC, and Michael J. Francis and wife Kelly of Swampscott; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren: Paige, Piper, Ellie, Lincoln, Isabella, Charlotte, Lilly, Roy, Hattie, Brennan, Michael, Merrick, Francis, Richard, Sarah and Elizabeth. She also leaves behind many dear nephews and nieces, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Charlotte was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Sigler.
