Germaine M. (Betournay) Boudreau

CHICOPEE – Germaine M. (Betournay) Boudreau, 94, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home on Edward Street in Aldenville on May 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Granger) Betournay. She graduated from Saint Joan of Arc Elementary School and lived in Aldenville most of her life. She previously worked at the former F. W. Sickles Company in Chicopee, the former Buxton Company in Agawam and had last worked for the former Rexnord Company in Springfield. Germaine was a Crossing Guard for the Chicopee School Department on the corner of McKinstry and Grattan Streets in Aldenville. She loved her job and became a “grandma” to many of the children who crossed each day. During her younger years, Germaine was a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 138 and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. She baked and decorated cakes for many years and was especially known for her famous wedding cakes. She enjoyed camping at Lake Dunmore in Vermont and loved feeding the birds and wild turkeys from her porch in Aldenville. Germaine was known by her family and friends as the “Bling Lady” and was always ready to meet up with her friends for a good game of Bingo at Sainte Rose, the K of C on Granby Road and Saint Stanislaus. Most of all, she was a wonderful woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward A. Boudreau who was Called Home on January 20, 2006. They were married on June 12, 1948 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. In addition, she was predeceased by her five dear brothers and three dear sisters, Roland, Roger, Alfred, Lucien and Emile Betournay, Blanche Cartier, Gertrude Nadeau and Helen Labarre. She leaves her two loving children, Daniel E. Boudreau and his wife, Carol, of Amherst and Gail E. Boudreau, of Chicopee; her three cherished grandchildren, Paul Danzig, Pamela Guilbert and her husband, Daniel, and Rebecca Lavelle; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Cooper and Amelia Lavelle; her dear brother, Henry Betournay and his wife, Barbara, of Chicopee; her dear sister, Estelle Tetrault of Granby; her dear sister-in-law, Rita Betournay of Chicopee; her dear brother-in-law, Robert Boudreau and his wife, Helen, of Guilford, VT; her dear sister-in-law, Helen Boudreau of Brattleboro, VT; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private for her family in the spring at Sainte Rose Cemetery in Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Mount Saint Vincent Activity Fund, 35 Holy Family Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
