New Bedford – Deolinda (Simao) Estrela, age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Estrela.
Deolinda was born in St. Michael, Azores to the late Jose Medeiros Simao and Maria Gloria (Barbosa) Simao. She moved to this area in 1979 and had worked as a presser for Marco Clothing.
She is survived by her children, Jose Estrela of New Bedford and Maria Tavares of New Bedford; step-daughter, Fatima Estrela of St. Michael, Azores; 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Tavares and Luiza Pimental; brother, Jose Simao; 2 daughter-in-laws, Ana Estrela and Fatima Estrela; several nieces and nephews; as well as her best friends, Lucy Medeiros and Gorreti Medeiros. She was also the step-mother of the late Conceicao Estrela and the late Manuel Estrela.
Deolinda’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
