Mrs. Mary E. (Ryan) Packer, a resident of Malden, formerly of Medford and beloved wife of the late Walter H. Packer, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday morning, July 15, 2019. She was 89 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 6, 1929, she was the beloved daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Hardie) Ryan. Mrs. Packer enjoyed people, quilting, reading, dancing, and learning something new every day. She was an inspiration and mentor to many people: friends, family, and as a volunteer in the St. Joseph’s mother’s club, the women’s auxiliary of the Knights of Matignon, and at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was the loving mother of Robert M. and his wife LeeAnn Packer of Surprise, Arizona, Jeanne M. and her husband D. Mark Lamarre of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Judith A. Packer of Malden, grandmother of Meredith, Michael, Jamie, Jace and Samantha, mother-in-law of Linda M. Koster of Stoughton and sister of June Ryan of South Boston. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mary was also the mother of the late James W. Packer and sister of the late Margaret Ryan Alessi.
Her funeral service will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Monday, July 22, 2019, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Wear bright colors and dress casually. Interment will be privately held at a later date. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the cancer charity of your choice.
