Susan M. Maguire
Susan M. Maguire - of Bourne, formerly of Sagamore Beach, Canton and Hyde Park passed away peacefully on July 13, 2019 at the Wingate Nursing Center in Needham.
Susan was born March 10, 1952 in Dorchester, the daughter of the late Doris (Connors) and John Maguire. She grew up in Dorchester and Hyde Park and was a graduate of the St. Clare High School in Roslindale. She attended Suffolk University and Stonehill College, majoring in journalism. Susan began her career at New England Telephone as a teen working summers as an operator at Adams St. Dorchester before moving into Management. Susan loved to travel, having visited Europe multiple times as well as Alaska, Bermuda, the Caribbean and even an African Safari. She enjoyed trying her luck at card games, was a voracious reader, loved animals – especially horses and dogs plus dabbled in the antiques business. Susan was a 39-year friend of Bill W. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched in such a positive way.
Susan is survived by her five siblings and their families: Jane and her late husband, Joseph Webb of Canton, John and his wife, Diane of Westboro, Paula and her husband, Robert Prendergast of Pembroke, Robert and his wife, Teresa of Key West, FL and Marie and her husband, Michael Macrorie of Winchester. Fun-loving Aunt Susu to 9 nieces and nephews: Jillian and John Prendergast, Lauren and John Maguire, Melanie, Andrew and Brian Maguire, Olivia and Deirdre Macrorie. Also survived by many cousins and lifelong friends.
The Maguire family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate staff at the Wingate Nursing Center in Needham and the Hospice of Massachusetts organization for the care and support they provided to Susan and our family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Canton on Wednesday July 17th, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St, Canton, prior to the Mass Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Burial private.
