Walter J. Geary, Jr., age 68, of Norton, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 13, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Machelle C. (Hood) Geary, to whom he was wed on January 17, 1980.
Born in Boston, MA on January 30, 1951, he was a loving son of the late Walter J., Sr. and Roberta (Mills) Geary.
Walter grew up in Boston and was educated in Boston Schools. During the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged from active duty on April 1, 1975. He later returned to school and received a degree as an automotive mechanic from ITT Tech.
Mr. Geary spent his working career as an automotive Mechanic. His last place of employment was at the former Tanner Ford in South Easton and he previously worked at the former Roberts Ford in Attleboro and the former Lucini Ford in Bridgewater.
A resident of Norton for the past twenty-five years, he was a member of both the Norton VFW and the Taunton VFW.
Walter will be greatly missed by his adoring family and beloved dog Daisy, who loved him dearly. His hobbies included fishing, motorcycle rides, Harry Potter movies and being a big fan of the Boston Bruins.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Tammy C. Grimm and her companion James Ambers of East Taunton, Tracy A. Sousa and her companion Butch Guillemette of East Taunton, Roberta J. Child and her companion Thomas Arena, Jr. of Norton and Christina M. McGourty and her husband Matthew of Attleboro. He was the cherished grandfather of Tyeshia, Kirsten, Jordan, Alexis, Alex, Zachary and Chloe and the great grandfather of Logan, Christian and Kayden.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his burial services with military honors on Friday, June 21st at 11:30 A.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Those attending Walter’s services are asked to go directly to the cemetery and please arrive by 11:15 A.M.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Walter’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made New England Shelter and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St., Norton.
