Bernard W. Slaney, age 64, of Taunton, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, April 18, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Mary Anne (Sieberg) Slaney, to whom he was wed for thirty-two years.

Born in Boston, MA on July 15, 1954, he was a loving son of the late Arthur and Hazel (Nickerson) Slaney.

Bernie grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of Boston Tech High School. He was a retired self-employed plumber and the proud owner and operator of Bernie’s Plumbing in Taunton.

A resident of Taunton for the past twenty years, he had previously made his home in South Easton. Bernie was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Wrentham Sportsmen’s Association. His other hobbies included gardening and cooking; especially making stuffed peppers, stuffed quahogs, smoked cheese and venison jerky.

Bernie’s family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed vacations spent in Key West Florida and will always be remembered for his special gift of making others around him laugh and throwing the greatest parties in the world.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted sons: Bernard A. Slaney and his longtime loving companion Christina Goncalo of Taunton and Sean E. Flaherty and his wife Patty of Braintree. He was the cherished grandfather of Aidan Flaherty and Rory Flaherty. He was the dear brother of Wayne Nickerson and his wife Phyllis of Maine, Diane DiFronzo of Randolph and the late Richard Slaney and Donna Perry. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, as well as numerous special friends.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a service in celebration of his life on Friday, May 3rd from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Taunton Eagles Club, 29 Oak Street in Taunton.

Visiting hours at the funeral home have been omitted and those wishing may remember Bernie with a donation in his memory made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital ,262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
