New Bedford – Joseph Rodrigues, age 89, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Louise (Flora) Rodrigues.
Joseph was born in Madeira, Portugal to Joseph Rodrigues Sr. and Laura (Faria) Rodrigues. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Joseph was the owner of Your Market on 87 Dartmouth Street and had also worked at Giusti Bakery. He was also employed as a construction foreman for the New Bedford Water Department. He loved to watch sports especially the Red Sox.
He is survived by his children, Susan Amaral of Fall River, David Rodrigues of New Bedford and Sandra Carpenter of New Bedford; grandchildren, Mark and Ryan Amaral, Tracy Maio and Christopher Carpenter; as well as 5 great-grandsons.
Joseph’s visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will be Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
