Obituary

Robert T. “Bob” Walas, passed away at a local nursing home on Jan. 29, 2019. He was born on July 13, 1930 in Chicopee to the late Stanley and Mary (Seremet) Walas. He attended Chicopee High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1953 at the rank of Sergeant. He received the United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars. He felt serving his country was the greatest achievement of his life and so very proud to be an American. He was employed by the Pennock Wholesale Florist Co., as a salesman until he retired. He is survived by his wife Carol (DeFelice) Walas of Springfield and her children who he considered his own, Billy Brassill and Tara of Springfield, Kelly Brassill Bogaard and her husband Godfried “Bogie” of Springfield and Geri Ellen Shults of Springfield; a daughter Tammy Maziarz of Cape Cod; 8 grandchildren, Paul Dumont Jr, Thomas Bombardier Jr, Meaghan and Gianna Brassill, Connor Shults, Griffin and Michaela Shults and Carol Ann Potter along with his great grandchildren and his special niece Nancy Bannister and her husband Jerry of Greenfield. He is predeceased by 2 brothers, Edward and Richard “Ace” Walas. A Funeral service will be held on Thurs. Feb. 7, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
