…active Tewksbury Senior; 89
TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Bernice L. “Bernie” (Doucette) Lynch, age 89, an active member of Tewksbury’s Senior Community, died unexpectedly Friday, January 4, at Lowell General Hospital, after suffering an apparent Stroke at her home on New Years day. She was the beloved wife of George W. Lynch, who died in 1988.
Bernie was born in Medford, one of eight children of the late Joseph and Mary (Deveau) Doucette, and lived there for the first seven years of her life. Her family moved to Wilmington in 1938, where she remained until 1993. After spending six years in Florida, she returned to Tewksbury in 1999, and had lived in the Delaney Drive - Flucker Heights community since her return.
He long working career began at the First National Grocery Store in Somerville, and later W.T. Grant Department Store in Wilmington. She worked as an account for the Town of Wilmington, and retired from the Blueprint Department of the J.W. Greer Company in Wilmington.
Never idol in her retirement, Bernie became an active member at the Tewksbury Senior Center with the Golden Age Club, the Tewksbury Red Hat Society, as an accomplished shooter and multi-team member of the Center’s Pool Leagues, served as a delivery driver for Merrimack Valley Elder Council’s Meals-On-Wheels project in town, and a participant of many daily activities and trips with her numerous friends. She will be remembered for her efforts as a volunteer, her warm and friendly outlook, and ever present smile.
She was also a devout Catholic woman, in her early years at St. Dorothy’s in Wilmington, and in later years, at St. William’s in Tewksbury as a Eucharistic Minister and member of Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.
She leaves a twin sister, Beatrice Yankowski of FL; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her siblings, Jim Doucette, Albert Doucette, Theresa Smeltzer, Celeste Luccier Agnes Mary Monagle and Marguerite Hanson.
Visiting hours Friday, January 11, from 4:00 until 6:30 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. An evening Prayer Service will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Summertime burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
