Lawrence E. "Larry" Knight

Lawrence E. Knight, of Ashby formerly of Tewksbury and Wilmington passed away peacefully December 15, 2018, following a lengthy illness. Larry, as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was the beloved husband of Jacqueline M. (Russo) Knight. Born in Winchester, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence H. and Geraldine (Greene) Knight, Jr.

Larry was raised and educated in Wilmington and was a 1971 graduate of Wilmington High School. He proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Larry worked for many years as a talented Mechanical Engineer and in most recently was employed with the MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington. Family meant everything to Larry and nothing gave him more joy than to always be present in the lives of his children and grandchildren. For many years he volunteered coaching youth sports that his children and grandchildren were involved with, and if he wasn't coaching he was always there on the sideline or in the seats supporting them as their number one fan. When Larry had time to himself he enjoyed fishing, especially Tuna Fishing. He loved the outdoors and traveling with his wife and family throughout New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine and recently they enjoyed a wonderful family vacation to Nova Scotia.

In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his devoted children; Kristen Knight of Ashby, Kerrin Tammik and her husband Dan of Ashby, Jimmy Knight and his loving companion Ashley Jurgel of Dracut. He was the loving grandfather of Lily Tammik, Ariana and Amelia Knight. Brother of Karen Rendon and her husband Fred of Virginia, Donna Knight of Leominster, Lori Rankin of Leominster and her late husband Bruce, and the late Bobby Knight. He is further survived by his longtime family friend Cathy Thompson of Leominster and many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to gather for calling hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Wilmington, Friday, December 21st, from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. followed by a prayer service and Military Honors starting at 1 p.m. Interment services will be private. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Larry's memory to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, c/o Advancement Office, P.O. Box 845257, Boston, MA 02284-5257.
