New Bedford – Manuel C. DoCouto, age 75, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria Isabel (Cesar) Couto.
Born in Livramento, Ponta Delgada, St. Michael of the Azores, he is the son of Odelia (Martins) DoCouto and the late Gil Cabral DoCouto. He served 27 months for the Portuguese Army during the Angolan War in the mid 1960’s. Manuel immigrated to the U.S. in 1970 where he worked as a machine operator for New England Ropes until his retirement.
He is survived by his mother, Odelia; children, Louis Couto, Gilda Couto and Christine Damaso and her husband, David, all of New Bedford; grandchildren, Marina, Matthew, Kyle, Derrin, Isabella and Brielle; brothers, Gil Cabral of Dartmouth and Adrian Cabral and his wife, Anna of New Bedford; as well as nieces and nephews.
At the request of Manuel’s family, his visiting hours and funeral services will be private.
