David W. Fancy, 70 of Derry, NH passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH. following a brief illness. David was born in East Derry, NH on March 30, 1948, the son of the late Nathan “Ted” and Julia (Orzechowski) Fancy. David was a lifelong resident of Derry and a 1967 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry. He served with the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era. David retired from the US Postal Service in Manchester where he was employed for 26 years. He was a member of the American Legion Lester Chase Post 9 and the VFW Post 1617, both of Derry. David was passionate and dedicated to the armed services and committed much of his time helping their causes. Along with his volunteer work and service, David was a dedicated father and friend and was an avid fisherman. Since retiring he enjoyed early morning fishing trips and could be found on the banks of local fishing holes throughout the seasons.
He is survived by two daughters, Michelle B. Chase and her husband Stephen of Derry, and Rene C. Berube and her husband Mark of Epsom, NH, one son, Adam D. Fancy of Nashua, NH, two grandsons, Tanor Chase of Derry, and Andrew Berube of Epsom, one sister, Laurie Lankford, of Georgia, one brother, Dennis Fancy of Haverhill, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (Mayo) Fancy in 2008.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 4 – 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Catholic prayer service was held at 7:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-9376.
