New Bedford – Jose Soares Figueiredo, age 85, of New Bedford passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Leonilde (Teodoro) Figueiredo and the son of the late Joao de Sousa Figueiredo and Maria Jose Soares.
Jose was born in Santa Maria, Azores and moved to this area in 1974 where he worked as a line worker for Chamberlain Manufacturing, as well as, AFC Cable Systems. Jose enjoyed in his younger years going to the movies with his wife. He loved to watch soccer and his favorite team was Sporting. Jose worked for many years as an airplane refueler for the airport in Santa Maria for Mobil Oil Company of Portugal.
He is survived by his wife, Leonilde; 4 children, Elisabeth Figueiredo Kastin and her husband, Darrell, Mario Figueiredo and his wife, Ursula, Lucia Lopes and her husband, Joe and Jose C. Figueiredo and his wife, Delia; 3 grandchildren, Cameron Figueiredo, Tyler Figueiredo and Claudio Raposo; a great-grandchild, Kai Raposo; a step-grandson, Jonathan Kastin as well as several nieces and nephews in New England and Portugal.
Jose’s visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will be Tuesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
