Mary T. (Salvatore) Tangney, 83, of Worcester died Sunday, October 28th in Rose Monahan Hospice Residence surrounded by her family. Her husband of 54 years, Eugene M. Tangney died in 2012. She leaves three sons, Michael J. and his wife, Cindy of Seattle, WA, Brian W. and his wife, Anne of Holden and John A. and his wife, Liza of Worcester; a brother, Joseph Salvatore and his wife, Barbara of Worcester; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephen, James, Grace and Olivia; a great granddaughter, Giuliana Kibbe and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Stephen P. Tangney; a grandson, Brian W. Tangney, Jr.; three brothers, Clement Jr., Gregory and Carl; and two sisters, Jean and Elizabeth.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Clement and Angelina (Izzy) Salvatore. Mary was a long-time member of Christ the King Church. Mary was old school Italian, cut from a special cloth. She was a true Matriarch of her family. She loved her family unconditionally, celebrating them in good times and a source of support in the not so good times, always trying to unite everyone to make special memories together by having old fashioned "Family Time".
Mary was a wonderful cook and loved showing the young ones all the secrets of her recipes. Her kitchen was a fun place where the main course served was love. Her home was the go-to place for family and friends where freshly percolated coffee was only a 10 minute wait and there was always something cooking in the kitchen.
Mary was an avid card player, loved to do puzzles and other games. She bowled with the “Fab Five” in the Thursday morning dropout league at Colonial Bowling Center.
Her funeral is Friday, November 2nd with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street (Please go directly to church). Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, November 1st from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester.
