Anne E. (English) McCarthy, 81, of Worcester died Tuesday, October 2nd in UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Eugene F. McCarthy; four sons, Kevin F. McCarthy and his wife, Virginia, Brian E. McCarthy and his wife, Victoria, David M. McCarthy and his wife, Elizabeth all of Worcester and Sean D. McCarthy and his wife, Ann of Holden; a brother-in-law, Patrick McCarthy and his wife, Joan of Claremore, OK; six grandchildren, William F., Owen E., Ryan C., Liam B., Kate E. and Nora E.; a step grandson, Jeremy Bujnowski and two step great grandchildren, Isabella and Jacob Bujnowski.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Owen and Edith (Fitzpatrick) English and was lifelong member of St. Peter’s Church. Anne graduated from South High School in 1955 and from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse at Memorial Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 2001. She had a passion for reading and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Mrs. McCarthy enjoyed traveling, bowling in the Tuesday League at Colonial and spending time with her family, especially her boys. Anne volunteered for many organizations including, St. Peter’s Church Bishops Fund, Freeland Street School and the South High School Booster Club. Anne enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and never missed a game.
Her funeral is Friday, October 5th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, October 4th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 929 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610 or to The Carroll Center for the Blind, 770 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02458.
