AUBURN: John F. Carpenter, 82, died early Friday morning, September 28, 2018 at St. Mary Health Care Center in Worcester, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Betty Ann (Ormon) Carpenter; a daughter, Cheryl A. Carpenter-Emery and her husband Russ of Concord, CA; four sons, John F. Carpenter, Jr. of Venice, FL, Kevin P. Carpenter and his wife Kathleen of Randolph, Joseph E. Carpenter and his wife Cynthia of Leicester, Daniel S. Carpenter of Auburn; three sisters, Mary A. Hanrahan of Worcester, Sister Helen Carpenter of the Maryknoll Sisters in Ossining, NY, Rita V. Murphy of Worcester; a sister-in-law, Maureen Carpenter of Worcester; nine grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Five brothers, Joseph E. Carpenter, Edward J. Carpenter, Jr., Thomas P. Carpenter, James M. Carpenter, and George V. Carpenter, all predeceased him.
He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Edward J. and Helen A, (O’Rourke) Carpenter and was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School and Worcester Junior College and was a resident of Auburn since 1969.
John worked many years as a machinist at Reed & Prince and also at Parker & Harper Manufacturing, until he retired. He was a member of the Auburn Knights of Columbus. He was a history buff and enjoyed reading and being a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. He will be remembered as a quiet, compassionate loving man who most enjoyed spending time with his family.
CALLING HOURS will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on TUESDAY, OCT. 2nd at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln Street, Worcester. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 a.m. on WEDNESDAY, OCT. 3 at OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS CHURCH, 1222 Main St., Worcester, followed by burial at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
