Dwight F. Maxwell, a longtime resident of Wilmington passed away peacefully September 11, 2018. He was 90 years of age. "Mac", as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was the beloved husband of the late Rita J. (Campanelli) who passed away in 2010. Born in Boston, Mac was one of nine children of the late Dwight T. and Anna (McTague) Maxwell.

Mac was raised in Roxbury and attended Boston Schools. As a young boy always eager to make a dollar, he worked many different jobs from shining shoes to selling watermelons from a horse drawn cart to name a few. In 1946, Mac enlisted into the United States Army and served with the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was later recalled to join the United States Air Force and honorably served during the Korean War until his discharge as a Seargeant from active duty in 1951. He spent nearly five years overseas.

When he returned home from the service, Mac met the love of his life, Rita, while she was working at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. They soon married and settled back in Massachusetts. Mac attended Wentworth Institute and studied to become a machinist. He worked for 30 years with the H.K. Porter Company in Somerville as a talented tool and die maker. He later worked for a few years as a counselor at Bunker Hill Community College and retired in 1971 from the Massachusetts Water Resource Department where he worked as a foreman.

Always active, Mac volunteered for many years as a Cub Scout Troop leader and was very active in Wilmington at many town events and with many different groups. He was well known around Wilmington. He was a member of the Wilmington Knights of Columbus Fr. Croke Council 4982 and was a fourth degree knight. He also was a member of the Tewksbury V.F.W. where he was very active and was a Past Commander. He loved to work the Bingo games at St. William Church in Tewksbury and was very active at the Buzzell Senior Center in Wilmington. When not staying busy around town, Mac enjoyed listening to music, singing, dancing and the occasional glass of scotch. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends with Las Vegas being one of his favorite destinations. However, Mac's greatest joy was his family and nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by those he loved. He will be greatly missed.

Mac is survived by his children; James C. Maxwell and his wife Sandy of New Brunswick, Canada, Marie Ciaramitaro of Haverhill and her late husband Benjamin, Dwight "David" Maxwell of Manchester, NH and his late wife Louann. He was the loving grandfather of Benjamin, Michael, Rachel, Courtney, and Cassie. Loving great grandfather of Cameron. Brother of Robert Maxwell of Pittsfield, NH, Phyllis Smith of Quincy, the late Rita McCormick, Anna Marashio, Edward, Paul, Charles, and Adrian Maxwell.

Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Saturday, September 15th, at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held on Friday from 2- 4 & 7-9 PM. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dwight's memory to the Buzzell Senior Center, 15 School St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
