New Bedford – Manuel D. Benevides, age 80, of New Bedford passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Donatila (Melo) Benevides and the son of the late Rafael and Maria da Conceicao (Mota) Benevides.
Manuel was born in Salga, Portugal. He moved to New Bedford, where he lived for the past 25 years. He had worked at Quaker Mills in Fall River.
He is survived by his children, Cidalia Cabral of New Bedford, Gabriel Benevides of Portugal and Sergio Benevides of Canada; brother, Augustinho Benevides of Canada; sisters, Suzanne Duarte of Canada and Salomé Cardoza of Canada; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Carlos Benevides and brother of the late Carlos Benevides.
Manuel’s visiting hours will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. His funeral will be Tuesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
