Obituary

Demetrios "Jim" Voyiatzis, 48, of Worcester died Sunday, August 19th with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his parents, Theodosios and Georgia (Raptis) Voyiatzis of Holden; his brother, George and his wife, Eleni Voyiatzis of Cambridge and by his niece, Georgia and his nephew, Theodosios.

Jim was born in Worcester and graduated, Magna Cum Laude from Johnson and Wales University. Jim was an accomplished chef and restaurateur and was well known for his Coral Seafood Restaurant from its inception on Green Street and its later location on Shrewsbury Street. He was a member of Escoffier Society, St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, a former member of its choir and was a tireless volunteer at the biannual Grecian Festival and a member of Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton Alexander the Great. In 2016 he was voted Worcester's Democrat of the Year. He delighted in entertaining his customers with his epicurean delights especially his cakes. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

His funeral is Tuesday, August 21st from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, August 20th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
