Obituary

Worcester - Kevin D. Wheeler, 66, of Worcester and a retired Worcester Firefighter died peacefully on Wednesday, July 25th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence after a battle with cancer.
Kevin is survived by his son, Shane M. Wheeler and his wife Katherine of Worcester; 3 grandchildren, Dominic T. Pope, Jack M. Wheeler and Zoey M. Wheeler; his former wife, Karen (Rigiero) Wheeler; two sisters, Nora Wheeler of Worcester and Susan Johnson of Florida and many nephews and nieces.
Kevin was born in Worcester, son of the late Wilfred and Dorothy (Becker) Wheeler and is also predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Phillip Wheeler, John Wheeler, Michael Wheeler and Mary Wheeler Dumas.
Mr. Wheeler is a graduate of Worcester State College and he proudly served the United States of America in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He became a firefighter for the City of Worcester in 1988 and retired in 2012. He started his career in the Webster Square Fire Station on Ladder Co. 4 and later worked in the Greendale Fire Station on both Engine Co. 11 and Ladder Co. 6, the former Central Fire Station on Engine Co. 1, the Fire Prevention Division and retired from the McKeon Road Station on Ladder Co. 5.
Kevin was a member of the Firefighter’s Local 1009 and was a devout fan of the New England Patriots. He enjoyed golfing and was true outdoorsman that loved to spend time fishing, hiking and camping. However, Kevin was the happiest when he was spending time with his grandchildren who meant everything to him.
Funeral services are being held privately and the family requests that memorial contributions be made to VNA Care Hospice c/o Rose Monahan residence 10 Judith Road Worcester, MA 01602.
