New Bedford – Mary Theresa (Teixeira) Sousa, age 70, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Hernani Gil Sousa for the past 49 years and the daughter of the late Antonio Cabral and Virginia (Pimentel) Teixeira.
Mary Theresa was born in San Raphael, CA and moved to St. Michael, Azores at the age of six months. At the age of 18, she moved back to the United States where she resided in New Bedford, MA for the remainder of her life.
Mary Theresa enjoyed having a full house of family and friends on Sundays.
She is survived by her husband, Hernani; 2 children, Hernani “JR” Sousa of Milton, MA and Diana Sousa and her husband, Paul of St. Michael, Azores; 3 grandchildren, Joshua and Alex Sousa of New Bedford and Felecia Sousa of St. Michael, Azores; 2 great grandchildren, Bianca and Ashley Sousa of New Bedford; siblings, Joseph and Tony Teixeira, both of New Bedford and Maria Furtado of Harbor City, CA; sisters-in-law, Madalena Teixeira of New Bedford, Patricia Teixeira of Laguna Woods, CA and Lourdes Teixeira of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Alfred Teixeira of Laguna Woods, CA.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday between 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 7:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church at 9:00A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
