Thomas A. Sundy, 93
Auburn - Thomas A. Sundy, 93, passed away in St. Vincent Hospital on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
Tom was born in Worcester a son of the late Jacob and Sophie (Sundi) Czyowski. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Sally G. (Ermanski) Sundy. He leaves a daughter Karen Longtin and her husband Paul of Rock Hill, SC; two granddaughters, Melinda Longtin of Rock Hill, SC and Stacie Berlin of Charlotte, NC; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Anthony and three sisters, Frances, Joan and Blanche.
Tom was seventeen years old when he left Worcester Boy's Trade School to enlist in the US Marine Corps on November 5, 1942. He served in the Pacific and saw action in Okinawa and was discharged in January 1946.
He returned to school to complete his studies in drafting and received his diploma as a draftsman from Trade School. He started working at Reed Manufacturing. He enjoyed dancing and met Sally Ermanski at one of the dance halls, and it was love at first sight. He married the love of his life on November 25, 1948. He was called back to service in July 1950 and served in Korea with the 1st Marines in the drive toward Chanjen Reservoir as a sergeant. He returned home in August of 1951. He was then employed by Wyman-Gordon Company as a draftsman and attended Worcester Junior College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Tool Engineering. Tom was a longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. At the age of sixty-two, he retired as a Development Engineer. He still enjoyed dancing, fishing and golf. Later, he became interested in doing stain glass work.
The funeral service is private. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011. HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., is assisting the family.
