Obituary




Yvonne (John) Botsis, 90, of Shrewsbury died Sunday, June 24th after a brief illness. Her husband of 31 years, George S. Botsis died in 1979. She leaves two sons, John G. Botsis and his wife Susan and Peter S. Botsis; a daughter, Iris E. Moore and her husband Eric; a brother, Savas John; a sister, Cynthia Frank; four grandchildren, Laura and Carla Botsis, and Emily and Jeffrey Moore; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Christos John, her twin James John, and Perry John.
She was born in Epiros, Greece the daughter of George S. and Penelope (Rogos) John, and immigrated to the US in 1933. She was raised in Taunton before moving to Worcester and lived in Shrewsbury since 1978. Yvonne was a former member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society. Yvonne co-owned White City Pizza in Shrewsbury with her husband for many years, and later worked at Cottage Doughnut and Shaw’s.
Yvonne was a kind, caring and loving woman. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. She had “the gift of gab” and could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She always had a positive and cheerful outlook on life. First and foremost, Yvonne’s children and grandchildren meant everything to her and were the most important things in her life. In her later years, she loved to look at photos and reminisce about the enjoyable times spent with her grandchildren when they were young.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation for the kindness and care given to Yvonne over the past nine months.
Her funeral is Friday, June 29th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a service at 11:30 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Thursday, June 28th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester, MA 01606; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
