Ruth Patricia (McLellan) Porter, 94, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018 at the Overlook Life Care Community in Charlton. Ruth was born in Boston on March 18, 1924. She graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1941, and from The Forsyth Training School for Dental Hygienists in 1943.
She married Leonel (Lee) Porter on January 16, 1944, and when her first son was born, Ruth devoted her life to raising her family and taking care of their home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than 70 years, actively involved in the Gamma Beta women’s group, as well as leading young adult worship groups, and many other activities. She is lovingly known for her beautiful handwork including knitting, crocheting, needlework, beading, and anything else that peaked her interest.
Ruth and Lee were members of the Ramblin’ Minutemen Holiday Rambler RV Club for over 40 years and traveled to all 50 states, as well as parts of Canada and Iceland.
Ruth was met at Heaven’s Gates by her loving husband, Lee, her daughter-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Porter, and grandson, Darryn.
The family she will be waiting for are sons Donald, of West Jordan, UT., and Larry and his wife Billie, of High Point, N.C., 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, and 11 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Ruth will be Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the James C. Nicholl, Jr. Chapel at the Overlook, 88 Masonic Home Rd., in Charlton, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her beloved Baptist summer camp, Grotonwood (Grotonwood Friends, 189 Prescott St., Groton, MA. 01450).
The Robert J. Miller- Charlton Funeral Home is assisting Ruth’s family with arrangements.
