NORTH BROOKFIELD: Sandra J. (Leeman) Metcalf, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 7 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.
She leaves her husband of 55 years, James E. Metcalf, a daughter Patricia Shermeta and her husband Daniel, a son Timothy Metcalf and his wife Jennifer, six grandchildren; Sarah, Leilani & Brian Shermeta and Sophia, Alex & Colette Metcalf, two brothers Norman Leeman and his wife Sharon of Maine, Norris Leeman and his wife Rosie of Massachusetts, many nieces and nephews and extended family in Palermo, Maine.
Sandy was born in Waterville, Maine, daughter of Lloyd and Hilda (Skidmore) Leeman. She graduated from Ware Senior High School, where she and her husband Jim met as freshmen. She was one of the first women to graduate from Northampton Commercial College with a degree in accounting. She worked at Prouty Insurance Agency in Spencer for many years before retiring. She was devoted to her family, friends and her hobbies. She participated in school, scouts and sports during her children's childhoods. She loved her time out-of-doors, whether it be working the beehives with Jim or picking her strawberries and raspberries. She built strong relationships with her fellow crafters at Christ Memorial Church in North Brookfield, often donating her work to community functions. Her grandchildren celebrate their "Grammie" with many embroidered shirts, jars of jam and good advice.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 13 at 2:00 PM with longtime friend Father Issac of St. Joseph's Abbey presiding in J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will be at a later time in Maine. A calling hour will precede the service from 1:00-2:00 PM.
