Obituary

Charles “Charlie” Bartley Lamport, 87, passed away on March 13, 2018 at Parkland Medical Center after a short illness while surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was born in Brighton, MA to the late Edwin and Sarah (Halfrey) Lamport. He was raised in Stoneham, MA with his four brothers and one sister.

During the Korean War, Charlie served in the Army as a radio operator at the Pentagon. He was one of the pioneers of solar engineering and worked for several major oil and gas companies throughout his life, including Mobil, Exxon, Sunoco, BP, and ARCO. Charlie raised his family in Tewksbury, MA and Frederick, MD and spent his retirement in southern NH. He enjoyed hunting, golfing with friends, fishing with his grandsons, and reading John Grisham novels, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Charlie is predeceased by his five siblings: Edwin Lamport and his wife, Ruth; Leonard Lamport and his wife, Eleanor; Robert Lamport and his wife, Lucille; Phillip Lamport and his wife, Katherine; and Phyllis Cannon.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife Nan (Papageorge) Lamport of Portsmouth, NH and his seven children: Douglas Lamport and his fiance, Joanne Cole, of Tewksbury, MA; Ronald Lamport and his wife, Susan, of Pelham, NH; Melissa Hoffman of Londonderry, NH; Carol Guerrin of Georgia; Michele Zaino and her husband, Jay, of Pelham, NH; Deanna Lamport and her wife, Dr. Cheryl Garganta, of Gainesville, FL; and Elizabeth Lamport of Londonderry, NH.

Charlie is survived by 17 grandchildren: Alyssa, Emily, and Matthew Lamport; Jaclyn, Jonathan, Joshua, and Jillian Hoffman; Marissa, Nicole, and Cassandra Zaino; Katelyn Lamport; Sarah Benine; Tania McAdams, Tiffany and Lacey Cole; and Stephanie and Christopher O’Donnell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held on Friday, March 16 from 5 to 7pm at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium (290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH) with a memorial service that immediately followed.
