Obituary





WORCESTER-Mary E. (Barron) McConville, 79, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Care One of Millbury. She was born in Worcester, daughter of William Everett and Margaret (Tierney) Barron and graduated from Ascension High School in 1956. After high school, Mary worked for New England Telephone until she married Tom and then moved to Falmouth for a short time. She later worked at Bergson’s Ice Cream and then Sullivan Garrity Insurance Company for many years. Mary was a member of St. John’s Church and participated in their Shawl Ministry. She was a member of the Ladies’ AOH Division 36, the Victim Advocacy Group and was a volunteer at the American Red Cross. Mary enjoyed “all things Irish” and attended many Irish festivals and traveled to Ireland with her sisters Barbara and Shirley. She loved to knit, sew, crochet, read and go to Hampton Beach.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Care One of Millbury for the care they provided to Mary, especially her PCA’s Lucy, Sandra and Tara, who lovingly cared for her daily.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Thomas A. McConville in 1994, her son, Sean P. McConville in 1989, her sister Shirley A. Barron in 2007 and granddaughter, Katelyn in 1984. She is survived by two sons; Michael T. McConville and his wife Ann of Charlton and Thomas C. McConville and his wife MaryEllen of Worcester, a daughter Kathleen M. Sullivan and her husband David of Grafton a sister, Barbara Barron of Worcester and nephews and nieces. Mary was a loving Grammy to eight beautiful grandchildren, Ryan, Meghan, Shannon, Erin, Haley, Zachary, Michael and Patrick, and Great Grammy to Shea. Her grandchildren were so important to her and she always made time for each of them, whether it was the long walks in the stroller as babies, endless trips to the playground, sleepovers, or attending countless ball games, dance recitals and graduation ceremonies.

Mary’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 28th from Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday, February 27 from 4:00 until 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s name may be made to the St. John’s Food for the Poor Program, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604 or to the Activities Program at Care One of Millbury, 312 Millbury Avenue, Millbury, MA 01527 .
