Obituary

Francis A. St. Amand, 97, of Worcester died Thursday, February 22 in the Hermitage Healthcare. His wife of 67 years, June A. (Conger) St. Amand died in 2012. He leaves a son, Mark A. St. Amand and his wife, Janice of Worcester; a daughter in law, Marguerite St. Amand of Brookfield; a brother, Edward St. Amand of Auburn; three sisters, Jane Gemma of Warwick, RI, Cecile Catterson and Florence Hayes both of Worcester; two grandchildren, Christopher St. Amand and Danielle and her husband, Stephen Scanlon, Sr.; two great grandsons, Stephen Scanlon, Jr. and Morgan Scanlon and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ronald F. St. Amand; three brothers, Albert, Leo and George and four sisters, Irene Harpin, Anna Garlic, Alice Gozdur and Theresa St. Amand.
He was born in Worcester the son of Joseph and Marion (Nolet) St. Amand and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Berthieville, Canada and Worcester Boys Trade. Francis worked for Thermo Electron for 26 years, retiring in 1985. He previously worked for Arter Grinding Machine Company for 13 years as a machinist. Francis was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran serving in the 8th Airforce with the 398-bomb group 601 squadron.
Mr. St. Amand was a member of the American Legion Tatnuck Post 288 and the Greendale retirement men’s club. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Francis was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and a founding member of the former St. Charles Borromeo Church. He was a fine gentleman who was loved by everyone. Francis cherished the time he spent at Colony Retirement Homes and the friendships he made there.
His funeral is Tuesday, February 27th with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
