Obituary

Holden: Orton C. Butler, 94, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. His wife of 58 years, Betty (Johnson) Butler predeceased him in 2009. He leaves two daughters Marilyn Butler of Worcester and Kathryn Butler of New London, NH, a granddaughter- Anika Sabin of Brooklyn, NY. His brother Donald Butler of Millersburg, Ohio and sister Lucille Hunter, of Mansfield, Ohio also preceded him in death.

Orton was born in Millersburg, Ohio, son of the late Maxon and Atossa (Carmichael) Butler. He graduated from Millersburg High School, earned his Bachelors Degree from Oberlin College and Masters Degree from Clark University in Worcester, and earned his Ph.D from Ohio State University. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII as a radio operator and received two bronze stars. He worked for many years as a college professor at Memphis State University. He was a founding member of the Marion Oaks Community Church in Ocala, FL and a member of the Masons.
He was an avid golfer and an weekend farmer.

There are no calling hours or funeral. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Orton's name may be made to The Sierra Club. To leave an online condolence message, please click link.
